Councillor Terry Douris has a long record of public service in Dacorum and across Hertfordshire. He has served as a borough councillor since 2007 and has represented Ashridge Ward since 2015. In his role as a local councillor, he works to represent residents’ views, support local services and help address the issues that matter most to the communities he serves.
In addition to his work at borough level, Terry Douris has served as a councillor at Hertfordshire County Council since 2009, representing the Bridgewater division. During his time in county government he has held a number of senior responsibilities, including executive roles connected with highways, education, libraries and lifelong learning. He has also served as Armed Forces Champion and as Chairman of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board. In 2023 he was elected Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council, becoming the 39th person to hold that office, and was later re-elected for a second year.
Over many years of civic and community involvement, Terry Douris has also served as Mayor of Dacorum, having previously held the position of Deputy Mayor. He is known for his strong commitment to local communities, his support for civic and voluntary organisations, and his interest in improving opportunities for residents across the borough and the wider county. His public service has been characterised by a focus on representation, community engagement and championing Hertfordshire as a place to live, work and thrive.
