John is a long term resident of Southdown, Harpenden who has served as a Harpenden Town Councillor, Chair of the Finance Committee and Deputy Mayor. As a qualified accountant and having been a Finance Director, John is committed to delivering the services people want in the Town at a cost effective price.
Working as a volunteer in a local charity shop, John has seen first hand the impact of the Lib Dem parking charges on the Town. He says 'Local charity shops have been impacted by the parking charges in a number of ways. The number of people popping in with donations has decreased as it is more difficult and expensive for them to park. Footfall has decreased in the Town, which impacts the charity shops as they rely on people popping in for a quick rummage. It has also made it harder to volunteer. Many volunteers are older people who cannot afford to spend nearly £5 per volunteer session maybe several times a week.'
John is a keen walker and loves the many country paths and walks in the area, particularly at Heartwood. He is a cricket aficiando.
