Matt Cowley has been elected the new County Councillor for Harpenden South West at the recent County Council elections on May 1st 2025.
Matt is an experienced Councillor having served on both Harpenden Town Council and St Albans and District Council. He is leading the fight against on-street car parking charges in Harpenden. He says "Against an enormously tough national picture, in Harpenden we saw the Liberal Democrats go from a 1,200 vote lead last May to a 600 deficit this time out."
He promises to continue to fight against the car parking charges. He also commented on the culture developing amongst Councillors at the district council that they know better than residents promising to fight it and says "We are elected to serve your interests, not our egos."
Matt has got off to a great start, having recently held a house meeting to discuss local issues. He will continue holding Town Hall meetings and house meetings and invites residents to get in touch with him if they have issues.
