The Conservatives at Harpenden Town Council have voted for the first community projects to receive funding from the Westfield allotments sale’s £2.65m capital receipt, following a community consultation where hundreds of ideas were submitted.
This included £150,000 for an ambitious public realm improvements plan and a number of other investments in our local environment and biodiversity. £100,000 will be spent on installing a boardwalk at Batford Springs, with a further £50,000 going towards tree planting across the town’s open spaces.
More than £100,000 will be invested in improving transport in the town - including investments in footpaths, cycle parking and improved parking on Leyton Road.
Further projects are being scoped and will come to future Council meeting; whilst investment in Rothamsted Park and other green spaces will happen if the Town takes ownership (more on this below).
Disappointingly, none of Harpenden’s Liberal Democrat Councillors voted to approve these investments at Full Council on 18th May.
