The County Council election on May 1st will be a choice between Conservative Competence and Liberal Democrat chaos.
Under the Conservatives, Hertfordshire County Council is considered the best run County in the Country.
Conservatives believe in aspiration and opportunity for all and we have made Hertfordshire a great place to get an education, build a business, and enjoy a rich cultural life or our wonderful green spaces. We have built a financially strong Council that has invested an extra £100m a year, rising to £125m this year to strengthen local services. We will invest over £1billion over the next four years in our schools, roads, nursing homes and supported living for disabled adults. We invest to care. At the same time, we promise to keep Council Tax low. We will make efficiency savings and cut waste, not services.
- 92.4% of children now attend a Good or Outstanding school and are top achievers nationally. We have invested in SEND education delivering 764 new school place and will boost SEND funding by a further £12M.
- Our Children's and Adult Social Care services are amongst the best in the country and we will continue to improve and deliver the best start for Children and the best care for all.
- 74,000 potholes were filled and over 1,000 highway schemes completed last year. We will spend £16 million next year in key road and transport upgrades.
- Everyone deserves affordable, high-quality, energy-efficient homes. But housebuilding must be sustainable, with schools, GP surgeries, roads, and digital infrastructure in place before new residents move in. Labour and the Liberal Democrats want massive housing targets, threatening Hertfordshire’s precious Green Belt. Under their reckless plans:
- St Albans would see a 75% surge in housing.
- Dacorum would be forced to build a third more homes.
- Nearly double the size of Luton Airport, which is backed by Labour, would damage North Hertfordshire’s quality of life.
- Hertfordshire is a beautiful county, and we are leading the way on sustainability—cutting emissions, reducing landfill, and increasing green spaces. While Labour and the Liberal Democrats pursue reckless planning reforms that threaten our countryside, we are taking real action to tackle climate change while protecting rural life.
